The African Warrior (Female) by Tekura is a hand-carved African home decor sculpture rooted in the warrior tradition of the Fante-Akan people of Ghana. Designed for the collector who understands that the most powerful objects in a home carry meaning that runs deeper than design.

Where it lives beautifully:

  • Entryway: a commanding first impression that sets the tone for the entire home
  • Living room corner or alcove: a sculptural focal point that anchors the space
  • Alongside the African Warrior (Male): a pair that tells a complete story of strength and legacy
  • Anywhere you want courage, history, and artistry in one object

Among the Fante-Akan people of Ghana, the Asafo warrior companies were never exclusively male. Women held formal roles within the Asafo structure, some rising to the position of Asafo Nkyer baa — female captains who led and fought alongside their companies in war. Men and women shared political and social responsibilities, with some companies reserving military leadership roles for women.

Tekura has given that legacy a form. Standing at 46 inches tall, the African Warrior (Female) is carved from reclaimed wood in a pale, weathered finish with white geometric detailing across her garment and a carved beaded neckpiece at her throat. She stands with the same quiet authority as her male counterpart. Upright. Unwavering. Present.

Why You'll Love It

  • Rooted in Ghanaian history: Inspired by the female warriors of the Fante-Akan Asafo tradition, women who held formal military and leadership roles within their communities dating back to the 17th century.
  • Hand-carved by Tekura: Crafted from reclaimed wood with precision, every detail honouring the material and the story it carries.
  • Striking at scale: At 46 inches tall, this is a sculpture that commands a room without demanding it.
  • Rich in detail: A pale weathered finish with white geometric patterning and a carved beaded neckpiece give the figure depth and cultural authenticity.
  • Stands independently: Mounted on a solid black base, ready to display
  • Limited availability
