The African Warrior Sculpture (Male) by Tekura is hand-carved African home decor rooted in the warrior tradition of the Fante-Akan people of Ghana. Designed for the collector who understands that the most powerful objects in a home carry meaning that runs deeper than design.

Where it lives beautifully:

  • Entryway floor: a commanding first impression that sets the tone for the entire home
  • Living room corner or alcove: a sculptural focal point that anchors the space
  • Alongside the African Warrior (Female): a pair that tells a complete story
  • Anywhere you want strength, history, and artistry in one object

For centuries, the Asafo, meaning "war people" in Fante, were the guardians of their communities along the coast of Ghana. They were protectors, keepers of tradition, and symbols of collective strength. Their legacy was never just military. It was cultural and political, woven into the social fabric of every Fante community they defended.

The Fante had a saying: Akyem tete a, eka ne mmeramu — when a shield wears out, the framework still remains. It is a proverb about endurance. About what survives long after the battle is over.

Tekura has given that legacy a form. Standing at 46 inches tall, the African Warrior (Male) is carved from reclaimed wood and finished in an earthy sage with white geometric detailing across his garment, a dark commanding headdress, and a terracotta shield at his side. Every detail is deliberate. Every line honours the artisan tradition from which it comes.

Why You'll Love It

  • Rooted in Ghanaian history: Inspired by the Asafo warrior tradition of the Fante-Akan people, a lineage of protectors and cultural guardians dating back to the 17th century.
  • Hand-carved by Tekura: Crafted from reclaimed wood with precision, honouring both the material and the story it carries.
  • Striking at scale: At 46 inches tall, this is a sculpture that commands a room without demanding it.
  • Rich in detail: Sage and white geometric patterning, a black headdress, and a terracotta shield give the figure depth, colour, and cultural authenticity.
  • Stands independently: Mounted on a solid black base, ready to display
  • Limited availability
